My backyard is changing. It used to be full of different perennials, but now, it’s surrounded by all sorts of trees like pines, blue spruces, and Japanese white pines. These trees have formed a natural wall around what’s going to be my secret garden.
I’ve noticed something interesting about this part of my yard. In the morning, the sun shines through the tall pines, creating a mix of sun and shade. This spot seems just right for some plants that like a bit of both.
I’ve already started planting sunflowers there. They add a touch of color and cheer to the garden. I’m thinking about putting in a climbing white rose too, but I need to make sure it gets enough sun.
Under the white pine, there’s a spot that’s perfect for some hostas and begonias. I’ve put in a few, including one Empress Wu hosta, and they seem to like it there.
Creating this garden is a family job. My son and husband have been a great help, moving compost and pulling up weeds. I like to start my day by watering the garden. It’s a nice way to start the day.
During my breaks from work, I head out to the garden. It’s a peaceful place where I can relax and clear my head. It feels good to get my hands dirty and focus on something simple and real.
From my deck, you can only see the wall of pine trees. Nobody would guess there’s another small garden tucked away behind them. I’ve always wanted to have my own secret garden, and now I’m making one. Seeing it come to life is truly quite amazing.
